Time stands still in this place. In late December, 2001 I went to Jukkasjärvi for a weekend, to stay in the IceHotel. It was Arctic night in northern Sweden, 200 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle. We never saw the sun. It was also bitterly cold with temperatures dipping below -30 C. No matter, for in my heart I was home. I'll carry back to NYC with me memories of mid-morning coffee over an open fire. A nightime race through woods and lakes on the back of a snowmobile. Reindeer. The warmth and humour of our Sami guides. And, of course, the best breakfast in the world: pickles, cheese and radishes! I hope you enjoy these photos from my trip. |
