Hippy-dippy Day!

What a cool horoscope, and perfect timing, too: "There isn't much that is beyond your reach today, as long as you stay in touch with the true source of your power. You won't be happy unless you consciously integrate your spiritual beliefs into everything you do. Monetary success is less important today than metaphysical rewards. Possessions come and go, but memories can you be yours forever -- so make choices now from a sacred rather than a mundane perspective."

Mash mash mash

I set today aside to practice my lighting, with a big thanks to all the tutorials at strobist. The goal was to control the reflections in a shiny object. The challenge is that everything a shiny object sees, it reflects which is pretty much a disaster in most photos (reflects you, the camera, the window, and so on). That's why it's important to NOT photograph naked. Just kidding. I adapted this setup and came up with this. I know the composition sucks, but I was mostly trying to control those shiny bits, and I'm pretty happy.

Spent a little time Wednesday hanging out in the park in Carrigaline, shooting flowers. These are for me, not stock, and are outrageously out of focus. No mind, I love 'em.

Don't eat 'em yet...

Yum. Baked up some scones yesterday, then photographed them. Then of course, we had to eat them! Hardest part was keeping the nephews away from the scones until I finished photographing them.

I think of all the things I'm trying to photograph for stock, food is my favorite. Maybe 'cos I love cooking. Other than wandering nibblers, the hardest things I'm experiencing with food photography are (1) the tiny crumbs that fall off the food and land on the plate, the tablecloth, etc. I don't always notice them at the time, but zoomed in at 200% they are larger than life! (2) the lighting (3) focus. Sound familiar? I'm always struggling to stay in focus, or at least, have the focus fall where it's most agreeable. What I really need to work on is the lighting so that I can add knives, forks and spoons to the shots. As it is, they aren't there because they reflect too much light and then we have GLARE...
