Spent the last 10 days worrying 'bout a surprise from Al Qaeda, 'bout the next war Dubya will take us into & whether Kerry will do it any differently, 'bout layoffs at the Library.

I need a vacation.

Happily, my sis gets here Saturday and the vacation begins.

I'm working on a new scrapbook of the 100 things I love most about NYC. It's an eclectic list: the McCarren Pool in Greenpoint, Charlotte Canda's tomb in Green-Wood Cemetary, the art deco iron at the Brooklyn Musuem of Art. Also: people-watching on the "F" train, the poems of Frank O'Hara, the beaver tiles at Astor Place, the Polar Bear swim, and the Gowanus Canal.
